Finding Balance: Lessons From the Line 🌿
Summer 2026
Balance is something we all experience every day.
It is not only about standing still. It is about adapting, listening and finding our way through moments of uncertainty.
A balance line offers a simple invitation: slow down, pay attention and notice what is happening in the present moment. Every step requires awareness. Every movement asks us to respond, adjust and trust ourselves.
When we begin learning to walk a line, the focus is often on the fear of falling. But over time, something changes. We begin to notice the small moments of success — a steady breath, a calm mind, one more step than before.
The journey becomes less about perfection and more about curiosity.
This is something I love about ropewalking. It brings together many of the things that inspire my work: movement, mindfulness, creativity and play. It reminds us that learning is not always a straight path.
We wobble. We try again. We discover a new way of moving forward.
Children often understand this naturally. They explore, experiment and learn through experience. They are willing to try, laugh, adapt and begin again.
As adults, we can sometimes forget this freedom. We can become focused on getting things right rather than enjoying the process of learning.
Balance practices offer us a chance to reconnect with that curiosity.
Whether it is standing on a line, practising a yoga pose, creating something with our hands or spending time in nature, these moments invite us to slow down and listen.
Balance is not about never falling.
Balance is about trusting ourselves enough to keep exploring when we do.
